On CBS's Survivor 51, Linnea was voted out of Dina in Episode 5 by a plan that started on another tribe. Maggie, a Toka, was sent to Dina's beach holding two Extra Votes and gave one each to Lewis and Kilby. They put four votes on Linnea, tying Dina's other four twice, and Kilby's willingness to draw rocks made the last three fold. It took two episodes and a broken oar to set up.
The short version
Linnea went home from Dina in Episode 5 without anyone on her own side wanting her gone. The four original Savus on Dina (Linnea, Cristian, Eric and Sharonda) had the numbers 4–2 over the two original Tokas, Lewis and Kilby. Then Maggie, who was not on Dina at all, walked onto their beach with two Extra Votes and handed them out.
Those two extra votes turned 4–2 into 4–4. Fans have been calling it a hit ordered from another tribe, and the Survivor Wiki lists two firsts: the first Tribal Council where two Extra Votes were played, and the first time one castaway held two at once.

Step 1: Episode 3, the bag and the oar
It started two episodes earlier, on the old Toka. While Mike kept a visitor busy, Lewis went through Carter's bag and found a clue to an advantage hidden in Toka's boat. Maggie found the right oar first, and Brady broke it open. Inside was an Extra Vote. Brady let Maggie keep it in exchange for a promise to vote his way. At Tribal that night she voted with the other side. Our Episode 3 recap has the whole oar sequence.
Step 2: The swap splits the old Toka allies
The Episode 4 swap put Maggie on the new Toka and dropped Lewis and Kilby onto Dina with four original Savus. Two against four is the classic swap trap: the minority goes first. Maggie had voted with Kilby at Toka's first and third Tribals and with Lewis at the third, and her new tribe stayed away from Tribal.
Step 3: Episode 5, the trip to Dina
Toka won the Episode 5 reward and immunity, but the pastries came with a catch: one Toka had to give up their share and leave camp. According to TVLine, Mike, Maggie and Kristin volunteered and the draw picked Maggie. The trip came with an Extra Vote she had to give to someone on the tribe she visited. She went to Dina, and on top of that vote she still had the one from the oar.
She gave one to Lewis and one to Kilby. Linnea told TV Insider she thinks Carter helped point Maggie at her.

Maggie never voted at Dina's Tribal. Her two Extra Votes did.

Step 4: Two 4–4 ties
At Tribal, the four Savus wrote Lewis. Lewis and Kilby each cast two votes on Linnea. That was 4–4, and the revote came out exactly the same:
| Round | On Lewis | On Linnea | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| First vote | Cristian, Eric, Linnea, Sharonda | Kilby ×2, Lewis ×2 | 4–4 tie |
| Revote | Cristian, Eric, Linnea, Sharonda | Kilby ×2, Lewis ×2 | 4–4 deadlock |
| Consensus | none | Cristian, Eric, Kilby, Sharonda | Linnea out |
Every ballot here is as the Survivor Wiki records it, and our Survivor 51 votes page has the same rounds.
Step 5: Kilby will draw a rock
After a deadlocked revote, the voters who are not tied must agree on one name, out loud and unanimously. If they cannot, everyone not tied and not immune draws rocks, and the odd rock goes home. Here that meant Kilby, Cristian, Eric and Sharonda.
Kilby said he would draw. Sharonda, Eric and Cristian would not put themselves in that lottery to save Linnea, and all four wrote her name. Linnea's final words on the Wiki say Kilby "mega blindsided" her.
Why the rock threat works
A rock draw is a one-in-N chance of going home for everyone holding a rock, and the person who threatens it is holding one too. Kilby's leverage was that he was outnumbered anyway: on a normal vote he and Lewis were next. The three Savus were safe if they gave in and at risk if they didn't.

Every rock draw in US Survivor
Kilby's threat almost added a fourth. Through Season 50, the US version has drawn rocks three times, per the Survivor Wiki's Tiebreaker page and our season-by-season history:
| Season | Who drew the odd rock | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| Survivor: Marquesas (4) | Paschal English | A final-four tie. Production had all three non-immune players draw, and Paschal went home without ever receiving a vote. Fire-making later replaced rocks at the final four. |
| Blood vs. Water (27) | Katie Collins | A deadlock between Hayden and Monica. Katie drew the odd rock and went to Redemption Island. |
| Millennials vs. Gen X (33) | Jessica Lewis | A deadlock between Hannah and Zeke. Six players drew and Jessica went home. |
Our voting explainer covers ties, revotes and rocks in full.
How it scored in fantasy
There is no line for playing or giving away an Extra Vote in the house scoring rules. The swing came from what the votes did:
- Linnea: −5 for being blindsided, with +3 back for saying the line the episode is named after. Net −2.
- Lewis: +2 for the blindside and +2 for the alliance, minus 4 for the four votes he survived. Net zero.
- Kilby: +2 for the blindside, +2 for the alliance and +1 for finishing the night with no votes against him, less 1 for sitting out the challenge. Net +4.
- Maggie: +6 without casting a ballot at Dina: +3 for Toka's immunity win, +2 for the journey and +2 for the alliance, less 1 for sitting out the challenge.
Those are raw scores; a manager who made one of them their Sole Survivor doubles the gains.
The fantasy points leaderboard has the Week 5 totals, and every advantage still in play is on the idols and advantages page.
Speculation
Both Extra Votes are spent, and Dina's three remaining Savus still outnumber Lewis and Kilby 3–2. The Episode 6 preview covers who is exposed if Dina goes back.

Quick answers
- How did Maggie get two Extra Votes in Survivor 51?
- She already held one: in Episode 3, Toka found a clue in Carter's bag, Maggie found the right oar, and Brady broke it open and let her keep the Extra Vote. In Episode 5 she was drawn to leave Toka's camp and visit Dina, and that trip came with a second Extra Vote she had to give to someone there. She gave one each to Lewis and Kilby.
- Did anyone draw rocks in Survivor 51 Episode 5?
- No. Dina deadlocked 4-4 twice between Lewis and Linnea. Kilby said he would draw a rock rather than vote Lewis, and Sharonda, Eric and Cristian would not risk it, so all four voted Linnea out.
- How many times has anyone drawn rocks on Survivor?
- Three times in the US version through Season 50: Paschal English in Survivor: Marquesas, Katie Collins in Blood vs. Water, and Jessica Lewis in Millennials vs. Gen X.
