What is the million-dollar coin toss on Survivor 51?
At some point in the season one castaway steps up to flip a coin. Call it right and $1 million is added to the prize. Call it wrong and they are out of the game on the spot, and the million rolls over to the next season.
How it works
- Starting with Survivor 51 the coin toss is a permanent fixture: it happens once in every season.
- The castaway calls heads or tails before the flip.
- A correct call adds $1,000,000 to that season’s prize money.
- A wrong call eliminates the castaway immediately, with no Tribal Council vote.
- A missed million is banked for the following season, so every failed toss raises the stakes of the next one until somebody lands it.
So far this season
Revealed in the premiere. Nobody has taken the flip yet, so the prize still stands at the base amount and the coin is still on the table.
The fantasy angle
This is the single most volatile event a roster can be exposed to: a castaway can leave the game without receiving a vote. Whoever steps up is gambling your points along with their game. Watch for a castaway who knows they are going home anyway, because that is the player with the least to lose from a flip.
