What was the mutiny twist on Survivor 51?
Tree Mail sent one castaway from each tribe to live at the other camp for a visit. Each visitor was offered the chance to mutiny, and stay with their new tribe for good, and each camp had an advantage hidden for whoever went looking.
How it works
- One volunteer from each tribe crosses to the other beach.
- Clues to an advantage wait at each camp, so a visitor goes home with more than gossip if they find it.
- A visitor can mutiny: give up their own tribe and join the one they are visiting.
- Anyone who is not on the boat when it leaves stays where they are.
So far this season
Devin went from Toka to Savu, found a Secret Extra Vote at the well with Sharonda, turned the mutiny down and came home. Carter went from Savu to Toka and never made the boat back, an accidental mutiny that left Toka with eleven, the most players a pre-merge tribe has ever had on the U.S. show.
The fantasy angle
A visit is a journey on the scoresheet, and it scores both ways: a castaway who comes back with an advantage banks points, and one who is stranded on the wrong beach pays for it. A mutiny also changes which tribe a castaway wins and loses challenges with, so check the tribe chips before you count on immunity points.
Scoring it can trigger
- Wins journey / gets advantage+2
- Loses journey / disadvantaged−2
- Finds idol/advantage+2
