In Borneo, Sue rode the dominant, secret Tagi Alliance of Rudy Boesch, Kelly Wiglesworth and Richard Hatch at a time when plenty of castaways thought voting as a bloc was cheating. She liked being underestimated as a simple redneck and kept her sharper side out of view. At the final four she deadlocked with Richard, and on the revote her close friend Kelly flipped and sent her to the jury. Sue answered at Final Tribal with the rats-and-snakes speech, casting Richard as the predator and Kelly as the prey, and vowing she would not share water with Kelly in a desert. It rubbed Colleen Haskell and Gervase Peterson the wrong way, but Richard still won 4-3.

Her All-Stars return on Chapera was rougher. Tribemates saw her as opinionated and a loner, and during a balance-beam challenge Richard rubbed up against her while naked, leaving her distraught. When Jeff Probst made a passing reference to it at the next Reward Challenge, she accused him of making light of what she viewed as harassment, then removed herself from the game to be with her husband.
