Shane played Panama in open nicotine withdrawal, and it showed: rants, petty fights and early talk of quitting. Once the four tribes became two, Aras Baskauskas talked him down and folded him into a Casaya alliance with Courtney Marit and Danielle DiLorenzo. Somehow the chaos worked. Casaya kept winning, Shane apologized for his outbursts on a reward trip where he finally got to smoke, and at the merge he led the Casaya bloc that picked off Terry Deitz's allies one by one.
The strain never let up. Shane adopted a chunk of wood as his Blackberry, needled Cirie Fields about playing under the radar, and tried to protect Courtney as an easy final opponent. Cirie noticed and cut Courtney first. Then Terry gave Shane an overnight with his son on the loved ones reward, the two bonded, and Cirie, Aras and Danielle blindsided him. On the jury he called Terry the most deserving and gave his vote to Danielle on a number-guessing game.
