The machete-sharpening workhorse who learned the game from Rob Cesternino, then used the lesson on him.
Known for
Matthew showed up in the Amazon knowing little about strategy and landed at the bottom of the power structure. His answer was to outwork everyone, hauling in food and leaning on his survival skills as the tribe's main provider. It did not buy him much love. His intensity, including endless sessions sharpening the machete, struck his tribemates as creepy and pushed him to the fringe.
Rob Cesternino saw a pliable pawn and took Matthew on as his student, walking him through the strategic side of the game. The tutoring backfired. With Jenna Morasca taking the last two immunity challenges, Matthew locked in a final-two deal with her, and Rob was the one left out. The jury saw a finalist who had ridden Rob's lead without much social or strategic game of his own, and Jenna won 6-1.
