Redemption Island's duel machine, who kept winning his way back and kept telling Rob Mariano a little too much.

Matt joined Rob Mariano's Ometepe alliance from the start, then gave Rob two reasons to worry: a budding romance with Andrea Boehlke and a sporting handshake with Zapatera seconds after a loss. Rob swung the majority, and Matt was blindsided in a vote that also flushed Kristina Kell's idol.
On Redemption Island he became a wall, winning duel after duel, including a showdown with Russell Hantz, before taking the reentry spot at the merge. He was suddenly the swing vote, and Mike Chiesl offered him and Andrea a final-four deal if they turned on Grant Mattos or Rob. Matt followed his conscience and told Rob everything, admitting he had considered voting him out. Rob fed him a fake target in Steve Wright and sent him straight back to the duels. Matt kept surviving there too, until a lapse in focus cost him the final reentry duel to Andrea. On the jury he tore into Rob's double-dealing, then voted for him for lack of a better choice.
