Hai untied knots instead of racing in the season's first challenge and walked away with an Advantage Amulet, sharing that uneasy bond with Drea Wheeler and Lindsay Dolashewich. On Vati he started on the outs alongside his closest ally Lydia Meredith, then rode a strange Tribal where Mike Turner and Chanelle Howell lost their votes. Hai refused to budge through the deadlock, Daniel Strunk blinked rather than draw rocks, and Jenny Kim left. Hai promptly scooped up Mike, and their new trio sent Daniel packing next.
Then Rocksroy Bailey's smashed hourglass left him exposed, and Omar Zaheer's pivot forced him to vote out Lydia himself. After that Hai played loudly, calling plays for the majority, which irked Romeo Escobar enough to toss a warning vote his way. He turned down Rocksroy's men's alliance and teamed with Romeo instead, with Mike's reluctant OK, but Mike was already tiring of him, and Omar fed Mike a lie that Hai saw him as a puppet. Hai figured Jonathan Young was the obvious target and got blindsided 6-2.
