Austin hit Survivor 45 running, pairing with Drew Basile on Reba and adding Dee Valladares and Julie Alley to create the Reba Four. He cracked a Beware Advantage with help from his alliance, then got swapped to Belo, where an amulet he grumbled about accepting at a journey helped him win over Emily Flippen and oust Brando Meyer. He kept giving up his vote to extend his idol's life.
The Reba Four ran the merge. Austin won his first immunity to snap Bruce Perreault's streak, and his amulet grew into a full idol as holders fell. The crack came at the final seven: Austin told Dee about a plan to blindside Julie, Dee told Julie, and Julie played the idol Austin had lent her to send Emily home. Then Dee kept quiet as Drew was blindsided. Austin forgave her, won another immunity, and Dee saved him from fire. At Final Tribal the jury respected his strategy, but Dee's revelations won the night 5-3-0; Bruce, Drew and Kendra McQuarrie voted for Austin.
